Pattern cutting

A consideration of how the parts of a shoe upper are designed.

To be a good pattern cutter, it greatly helps to understand all the production processes that the footwear will go through. This article will initially discuss traditional pattern cutting methods and later touch on the use of CAD-CAM ('computer-aided design' and 'computer-aided manufacture') systems. It is important, however, to emphasise that the basic principles are the same, whether patterns are developed manually or by computer programs.
