Breathability of footwear – an important comfort property

There are many different tests for the breathability and water disposal properties in footwear materials and whole shoes. These are explained with their uses and relative advantages. However, all tests involving water vapour are critically dependent on the humidity gradient across the materials – this means that footwear will behave differently in different climatic conditions. Results are given from recent SATRA research which has investigated the effects of climate on breathability properties.
