First major project announced for adidas Speedfactory

adidas aims to make at least 50 per cent of its products in Speedfactories by 2020.

Sportswear producer adidas has released details of a series of running shoes to be made at its automated ‘Speedfactory’ production facility in the German city of Ansbach. According to the company, the ‘adidas made for’ (AM4) collection will herald a ‘significant moment’ in terms of the future of its manufacturing processes. This ongoing project will involve adidas researching, designing and producing running shoes for the specific needs of six key cities around the world.

The first of these new products will be the ‘adidas made for London’ (AM4LDN) shoe, which is said to have been developed after close consultation with a group of consumers based in that city. This reportedly allowed the company to gain insight into the specific demands of runners in London. The Speedfactory process will also be applied to tailored running shoes for Los Angeles, New York, Paris, Shanghai and Tokyo, which are scheduled to be released throughout 2018.
