Legislation covering footwear electronics

Investigating legislation to be considered when placing footwear incorporating electronics onto the European market.

As highlighted in the article 'Using electronics in footwear', electronic components have been commonly found in children’s footwear for some years – mostly in the form of novelty light-emitting diode (LED) lights – but are increasingly used in adult footwear for a variety of applications. This article considers the relevant standards for footwear products containing electronics. Footwear containing electronic items fits within the definition of ‘electrical and electronic equipment’ (EEE), which is used in some legislation.
