Spanish shoemakers consider 'quality' label

The new label will be used to draw attention to Spanish-made shoes.

Proposals have been made to create a new label allowing footwear manufacturers in Spain to promote the quality of their products. The label may also be used to highlight comfort, environmental responsibility and good social and labour practices. While it would be available for use by all Spanish shoemakers, the project is primarily aimed at those in Elda and the surrounding area.

Spain’s national footwear museum and Valencia shoe industry association Avecal are considering the idea, which was initially made by a local authority. These bodies are exploring ways to help local companies become more competitive in domestic and export markets.

The footwear museum would be responsible for introducing the label, and other organisations, such as FICE (the country’s principal footwear association), are said to have expressed their interest in getting involved.
