Box toeing in shoemaking

The various types of box toes and how they are applied.

Box toes (also known as 'toe puffs') are attached to the back of the upper in the toe area, and between the upper and lining in lined styles. They are used to stiffen and maintain the shape of the toe after last slipping, thus enhancing its appearance and comfort during wear.
