South Africa 'committed' to footwear and leather
The South African government has included the footwear and leather sectors among the industries to be supported during the COVID-19 pandemic. According to deputy minister of trade, industry and competition, Fikile Majola, footwear, leather, retail clothing and textiles producers are critical to the country’s economy. He announced that the government will focus on rebuilding manufacturing and expanding capacity, while working towards significantly reducing illegal imports to eliminate unfair competition against local companies.
