Can footwear really be waterproof?

Consumers expect the performance of their footwear to meet any claims of water resistance that are made.

There is a continuing debate about whether any footwear other than all moulded boots should ever be claimed to be ‘waterproof’. For an item of footwear to be classified as waterproof, it should be capable of preventing any water ingress for the whole of its useful life – while it is otherwise in a reasonable condition.
