Nike releases women’s fitness shoe for slow running

Sporting goods producer Nike has launched a new women’s sports shoe – called the ‘Motiva’ – designed for walking, jogging and slower running. After gaining insights from women logging workouts on the Nike Run Club app and conducting interviews with more than 1,000 women engaged in these activities, the company’s designers and scientists endeavoured to understand their unique requirements and create a shoe that made all movement ‘more enjoyable, less work and more fun’. This motivated the Nike team to create a shoe that would ultimately motivate people to keep going.

The key technology used in the Nike Motiva is its rocker geometry. As walkers tend to heel strike, the shoe’s exaggerated rocker bottom reportedly helps to provide a smooth transition in forward movement. Following heel impact, the rocker is said to roll the foot forward to push back off for the next step to be taken.
