Through its ‘Creation of Sustainable Materials’ (COSM) division, the ISA leather manufacturing group has launched an affiliate programme to enable footwear and fashion producers to collaborate and co-create with its ‘HyphaLite’ bio-based material. According to the Macau-headquartered company, HyphaLite is entirely made from cellulose fibres obtained from mushrooms and has been certified by various schemes. ISA’s bio-based products – which are being used by a number of global brand owners – are marketed as an alternative to materials that contain plastic rather than as a direct replacement for leather. Only mushrooms unsuitable for human consumption are reportedly used. These are grown on wood chips and rice husks, and no additional chemicals are used during farming.

ISA chief executive, Uwe Hutzler, commented: “We are thrilled to introduce the ‘Spores Affiliate Programme’, which draws inspiration from the reproductive cell of mushrooms. Just like a spore, we envision HyphaLite growing, expanding and revolutionising the industry and consumer experience. However, we cannot achieve this vision alone. We are seeking partners who share our passion for developing amazing products for the next generation.”
