Golfers faced ‘200-yard test’ before buying new shoe

Prospective buyers had to prove they were serious golfers.

A London-based retail store recently devised a plan to ensure that the new Nike Travis Scott x Air Jordan 1 Low golf shoe ended up on the feet of genuine players rather than simply being snapped up by resellers looking for a quick profit from the sneaker market. Only 72 pairs of the shoes, which are a design collaboration with Texas rapper Travis Scott and which feature nubuck, leather and mesh uppers, were initially available as a limited edition from the Pitch London store. An online raffle to secure a place at a special event quickly sold out, with the successful entrants invited to attend in order to prove their right to purchase a pair of the shoes.

Facing a high-tech golf simulator screen, prospective male buyers were required to hit the ball over 200 yards, while women had to pass the 150-yard mark. To add a little pressure, each player had just two attempts, so if they fell short, these golfers left empty-handed. According to some golfing commentators, this new footwear is going to be in high demand, and such a marketing stunt is likely to drive up sales when these shoes become more widely available on the market.
