The Portuguese footwear, components and leather goods manufacturers’ association (APICCAPS) is holding awareness-raising sessions to promote the nation’s footwear industry. These will be held with primary school children and older students in Felgueiras, Guimarães, Oliveira de Azeméis, Santa Maria da Feira and São João da Madeira.

Among the issues being discussed as part of the ‘Knowledge Roadmap’ programme are ‘overconsumption and the importance of the choices we make every day that affect the planet’, ‘the primacy of social responsibility and sustainability’, ‘support for the local economy’, ‘the materials of the future’, and ‘the significance of the footwear industry in Portugal’.

Due to run for three years, the Knowledge Roadmap is part of the ‘BioShoes4all’ project supported by both the Portuguese government and the European Commission, and will tackle a series of prevalent industry stereotypes that need to be ‘demystified’.
