Decathlon increases sales of second-hand products

French sporting goods retailer Decathlon has announced that its second-hand business grew in France by 21 per cent during 2024. In a report on business performance in its home market last year, the company described selling approximately 420,000 pre-owned items. Decathlon has 320 stores across France, and nine out of ten of these outlets are said to offer second-hand products for sale. In addition, the company has reported that its network of repair workshops has expanded to 317 sites and that 1.5 million products were repaired in these facilities in 2024.
Decathlon was founded by Michel Leclercq in 1976 and started trading with one store in the city of Lille. By 2024, it was operating more than 2,080 stores in 58 countries and regions and is reportedly the largest sporting goods retailer in the world.
