According to Brazilian footwear industry body Abicalçados, imports of footwear for the month of January 2026 reached a record level of almost 4.5 million pairs. This represented a growth of 34.3 per cent compared to January 2025. Of these 4.5 million pairs, 1.5 million pairs arrived from Vietnam, 1.25 million pairs were imported from China, and 996,000 pairs were from Indonesia.
The monthly figure came on the back of a record volume of footwear that was imported into Brazil in 2025. During the year, a total of 43.2 million pairs was shipped into Brazil – an increase of 22.5 per cent year-on-year.
“The increase of footwear coming into Brazil, especially products that are very low in price, is causing great concern,” said Abicalçados executive president, Haroldo Ferreira. “This is to the detriment of domestic production, which reduced last year by 2.2 per cent.”
