September GDS show moves to midweek slot

Fashion shows are popular with visitors to the exhibition.

The GDS event for shoes and accessories is an international fair that takes place twice yearly in the German city of Düsseldorf. The exhibition provides nearly 1,000 companies the opportunity to showcase their footwear-related products and services to visitors from around the world, with more than 29,500 delegates attending the last edition during February.

September’s show will display collections for spring/summer 2012, with areas dedicated to progressive and classical premium brands, quality fashion brands, street and sportswear and children’s fashion. The event will also feature fashion shows, demonstrations, seminars and lectures.

As before, GDS runs alongside Global Shoes – a trade exhibition for volume sourcing, which will see the gathering of a further 400 exhibitors.

The timetable for the fair has changed from the previous weekend slot to being held on Wednesday to Friday, an alteration that was positively received at February’s show, according to the event organisers. Kirstin Deutelmoser, Director of GDS and Global Shoes, claims to have achieved her goals: more decision-makers than before attending and positive feedback from exhibitors on the number of international visitors, many of whom arrived from the UK and the USA.
