SATRA presentations well received in China

SATRA’s Dongguan and Zhuhai roadshows were well attended.

SATRA members in China recently took advantage of the opportunity to meet several experts and receive an updated report on SATRA’s technical work on a number of important and topical subjects. As part of a programme of free ‘roadshows’, these presentations are held exclusively for SATRA members and are now a regular feature in the Technology Centre’s events calendar.

This year’s roadshows were held in Dongguan and Zhuhai. The response from the invited audience was excellent, with close to 100 delegates from nearly 30 member companies attending the events, which comprised five detailed presentations.

The SATRA technical experts present were John Hubbard, (Environment and Sustainability Consultant), China Office General Manager, Steve Rose, and John Reed, Laboratory Technologist and Auditor. James Corton, SATRA’s North American Business Manager, was also welcomed on his first visit to China.

John Hubbard first spoke on SATRA’s diverse innovative and exciting research programme over the past year and also outlined future work areas. SATRA research is aimed at helping members improve products or services. In another presentation, he updated members on the recent and forthcoming stages of the European REACH legislative process. This is an important topic for any company exporting products to the EU, and SATRA helps many members with advice on REACH legislation.

Steve Rose discussed the topic of quality assurance in the footwear supply chain, explaining the many processes covering various areas of quality control. The importance of bringing all these processes together to ensure that quality is present throughout the chain was emphasised.

John Reed explained recent changes to safety footwear standards in the key export areas of Australia, Canada, Europe and the USA. He also reminded delegates of the many differences between the various standards in force, an understanding of which is proving to be essential.

Finally, James Corton explained his role as SATRA’s representative in North and South America, linking US brands and retailers with their suppliers in the Far East via SATRA UK. He also updated members on the critical American chemical legislation applying to footwear, based on the CPSIA and California Proposition 65.
