adidas Group plans new European facility

The adidas Group has announced its intention to open a distribution centre in Niedersachsenpark, Germany in 2013. This will become the Group’s largest distribution site worldwide, covering the wholesale, own retail and eCommerce sales channels for both the adidas and Reebok brands. According to adidas, more than €100 million ($144 million) will have been invested and over 200 permanent jobs created on the site.

“Until 2015, we want to grow our business to €17 billion ($24.5 billion). The new distribution centre will enable us to bring our products faster and more efficiently to our customers and consumers,” said adidas Group Chief Executive, Herbert Hainer. “This major investment in a state-of-the-art facility in Niedersachsenpark also clearly shows our commitment to our home market, Germany.”

The facility is expected to commence operation in the first half of 2013, with annual throughput expected to exceed 100 million pieces by 2015. From the distribution centre, products will be delivered across Western Europe, utilising what the company describes as standardised distribution processes, full automation and integrated IT solutions.
