Forecasting performance through whole product testing
Effective testing is important to ensure the fitness for purpose of new footwear.
The ultimate test of a shoe’s suitability takes place not in a laboratory, but in the real world – on wearers’ feet. The possible consequences of failing this test include high return rates, product recalls, high-profile court cases and damage to a carefully nurtured brand image. Fortunately, such unwelcome problems are relatively rare, and there are many reasons why this is the case. Central to success is establishing at the earliest stage possible that the proposed design, materials and components – and the intended production processes – will result in footwear that performs satisfactorily in service.
