New method for assessing box toes and counters

Highlighting changes in how these components are accurately tested.

Box toes (also called toe puffs) and counters (stiffeners) are structural components incorporated into footwear in order to influence both fit and aesthetics. Their primary function is to improve shape retention of the upper once the last is removed – by the box toes in the toe area and by the counters in the heel area – and to preserve the shape throughout the life of the footwear.
