SATRA China Technical Seminar Programme

Tuesday 19th November 2019 to Friday 22nd November 2019

SATRA technical experts will be in China (Dongguan) in November 2019 to present detailed seminars on the latest developments in footwear and PPE.

There will be 6 seminars over four days, either half-day or full-day in length, which will be  presented in English with Chinese translations (written and spoken).

The first day of seminars (Tuesday 19th November) is open to all but the remaining 4 from Wednesday 20th - Friday 22nd November are open only to SATRA member companies. Seminars will be held in the SATRA China office. 

Morning sessions: 0930-1230

Afternoon sessions: 1330-1630

Seminars are free for SATRA member companies. Non-members will need to pay 150RMB on the door on Tuesday 19th November.

REACH Update

An overview of the current status of the REACH (and other global chemical) legislation focusing on the most recent inclusions and the impact on footwear and other consumer products being placed on the market.

Production efficiency 

A discussion on the meaning of efficiency in a factory environment and how various initiatives can be put in place to save footwear factories money.

Wednesday 20th November (full day) ***Member Only***

Sustainability

A discussion on the challenges to the footwear industry regarding sustainability and green credentials. Looking at ethical material sourcing, carbon footprint and waste management and their relevance to environmental impact of footwear during manufacture, lifecycle and end-of-life. A review of the schemes and systems that have been developing for monitoring and communicating sustainability goals within the supply chain.

There will also be a brief discussion of the requirements and challenges for supplying vegan footwear.

Testing of footwear solings 

An explanation of the various tests that footwear solings undergo and how those tests can show what the issues are with a given sole unit.

Improving the quality of laboratory results - understanding uncertainty of measurement

A brief introduction to estimated uncertainties – to develop an understanding of what those uncertainties on your test reports and calibration certificates mean, how they are calculated and why they matter.

Friday 22nd November (morning) ***Member Only***

The case for Mondopoint 

An overview of current shoe sizing systems, their advantages, disadvantages and effect of the footwear industry and end consumer. An introduction to Mondopoint labelling system and speculation of the future of shoe sizing.
