Consumer pressure is mounting to ensure that all consumer products are produced in a way that meets the most commonly recognised definition of sustainability: products manufactured in a way that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs. It has three main pillars: economic, environmental and social, more typically referred to as People, Planet and Profits.

Producing footwear is no exception to the demand for sustainable products, but due to the number of materials, components, constructions, geography of manufacture and end user locations, meeting sustainability criteria is very challenging throughout the value chain. The footwear industry may not have all the answers but there is a desire to work towards constant improvement.

With this in mind, SATRA is hosting a forum for members to review the current industry situation and to hear a selection of speakers talk about some of the steps that are being taken in the direction of sustainability.

The initial SATRA Sustainable Footwear Forum will be held at SATRA's head office in Kettering on Thursday 05 December 2019 with additional forums being held in China and the United States early in 2020.

Places will be limited so please book early to avoid disappointment by emailing training@satra.com and returning the attached booking form.
