Mark Southam from SATRA’s footwear testing team reviews the most common failures during wear that cause customers to return their footwear. The types of failures and their causes are considered and how returns might be classified as either justified or unjustified. The effects of consumer legislation and the global ‘consumer climate’ on the treatment of footwear returns will also be discussed, including a review of the importance of addressing safety related failures.
