Backparts of women’s high-heeled footwear are safety-critical constructions and must be designed to provide the necessary strength and support and to avoid failures in wear. A faulty backpart may lead to customer dissatisfaction or more seriously may result in a costly claim for damages if failure of the footwear results in an injury due to the wearer falling.
SATRA footwear technologist, Mark Southam, looks at how footwear backparts may be tested within the laboratory.
