When manufacturing footwear or sourcing from a third party, a detailed “product specification” is most important for each style. In many instances, it forms part of the contract with the factory, and details of the style, colour, materials, components, suppliers etc., should all be included in the specification. This ensures the factory will produce a product with the required aesthetics and performance requirements, minimising any supply chain disputes or problems in wear.
Mark Southam will look at the importance of these specifications, what they should cover and what can go wrong if they are not used correctly.
