Per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) have been the subject of much discussion over the past year, and the intense debate over their use continues in 2024. These substances have been used for many years in a wide range of industries, but in recent times concerns have been raised regarding their persistence in the environment, and the long-term impacts their continued use may have. Recent years have seen the implementation of new legislation for PFAS across the globe, which have varied significantly, from generic restrictions on total organic fluorine (TOF) content to individual limits on specific PFAS chemicals. Navigating this evolving legal landscape presents significant challenges to industries which operate on an international scale.
