Although toys and childcare products are covered by the European General Product Safety Directive and special requirements have been established to demonstrate the safety of products intended for children, no such legislation exists that is specifically for children’s footwear.

Children’s footwear can present different potential risks to those in adult footwear. This half-day seminar, which is exclusive to SATRA Members, is aimed at anyone involved in the manufacture, supply, distribution or specification of children’s shoes.

Suppliers of children’s footwear need to develop techniques and procedures to address the risks associated with the use and performance of children’s footwear from slippers, through school shoes to wellingtons and trainers.

Topics covered

During the session, SATRA experts will look at many of the potential risks associated with children’s footwear and provide guidance on best practice and ensuring that the product is safe and fit for purpose. The importance of correct fitting and the prevention of slip injuries will be discussed and the changes to toy legislation and due diligence chemical assessment of children’s shoes will also be covered.

The programme ends with an optional tour of SATRA.
