SATRA continuing to reward innovation
Gala event held in UK sees innovators, designers and industry leaders arrive from across the world.
3rd April 2014
Leaders in cutting edge design, innovation and ingenuity throughout the international workwear supply chain, from corporate uniforms to safety garments and personal protective equipment (PPE), were assembled for the second Professional Clothing Awards event, held on 1st April at the UK’s Hilton Metropole Hotel at Birmingham NEC.
The awards event was first staged two years ago when SATRA teamed up with event organiser, Yvette Ashby, to bring together the SATRA PPE Innovation Awards with the Business Manager and Supplier Awards, which grew out of the Workwear and Corporate Clothing Show. This year's event was hosted by UKFT CEO, John Miln, and Ruth Morris, Uniform Manager for the Rugby World Cup 2015.
Entries were received from all over the world at what is the only event in Europe which is solely dedicated to the professional clothing industry. The awards were divided into three sections covering Business Managers, Suppliers and those for PPE Innovation, a category initiated by SATRA, a world-leading research and technology organisation specialising in the research, development and testing of a wide range of products, and an established European Notified Body for CE marking.
The winner of the evening’s main SATRA award ‘SATRA PPE Innovation of the Year’ (chosen from the three SATRA award categories) went to OutDry Technologies and Creative SRL for the Fire Flow firefighter glove which features adaptive insulation. As well as a crystal trophy, the winner received a gold envelope from SATRA’s Chief Executive, Austin Simmons, containing the opportunity to undertake at SATRA research, testing and certification at 50 per cent discount to a value GBP 10,000. SATRA also offered the winner an opportunity to discuss working with SATRA to develop a product or products for commercial exploitation.
The other SATRA awards were Best Innovation in Safety Footwear awarded to Magnum UK for the Armadillo HPI ‘hospital’ shoe, Best Innovation in Occupational PPE awarded to HB Schutzbekleidung for the Orange-Red Hi-Vision Parka, and Best Innovation in Security and Emergency Response PPE awarded to OutDry Technologies and Creative SRL for the Fire Flow fire fighter glove.
One highlight of the evening was a Lifetime Achievement Award presented to Frank van Wesel, founder and Chairman of Hi-Tec Sports.
