Record Year For Furniture Testing
New investment in staff and facilities
15th December 2017
SATRA has reported a record year of trading in its furniture testing department leading to significant investments in new technology and staff.
SATRA has invested in a new Universal Fatigue Tester for testing chairs, cabinets and beds, which will double the current testing capacity in that department.
Geoff Bindley, SATRA’s furniture testing business manager, said ‘We are delighted with the growth in furniture testing at SATRA this year. Due to the expanding resources and demand, we have invested in our team with internal promotions and the recruitment of two new technicians during 2017.’
Within the team, Phil Weal (pictured) has been promoted from senior technician to systems coordinator responsible for calibrations, quality, health and safety, maintaining the ISO 17025 accreditation with UKAS and driving continuous improvement in the quality and integrity of the work produced by SATRA.
SATRA is planning to recruit further technicians in 2018 and another technologist to support the expanding customer base.
‘This is a very exciting time in furniture testing and certification at SATRA,’ Mr Bindley continued, ‘as there is growth in the whole market. In 2017, we have seen that table and bed testing work has tripled, cabinet testing has doubled, chair testing has grown and we have launched the SATRA Diamond Product Certification programme. We have a great team and are all looking forward to a busy and successful year in 2018.’
