Testing and certification of motorcycle footwear

In our webinar, Hannah Coe and Daniel Cotter discuss the testing and certification requirements for motorcycle footwear. Some of the required testing includes an assessment of the upper and the types of seam constructions. There are tests on the integrity of the whole boot, including measurement of the bond strength between the upper and outsole and testing to assess the transverse rigidity of the boot.

Included in the webinar is an overview of the certification process, to include CE and UKCA.

Sports PPE

There is a wide range of sports protection used for professional, amateur and recreational sports and many of these protective items are considered as PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). This requires that they should be tested to the relevant standard, in addition to type examination process (CE and/or UKCA marking). This session includes a presentation discussing the various standards covering sports such as football, hockey, cricket and martial arts, and the testing required to meet them. The certification process is also discussed.

Introduction to CE marking toys

In this webinar, Emma Norris and Lucy Cove from the chemical testing team discuss what needs to be considered when selling toys within the EU. The webinar focuses on items such as soft filled toys, teething rings and dummy clips. It includes information about self-certification and CE marking requirements and the responsibilities of toy manufacturers and importers. The testing required for the EN 71 series of standards is also discussed, including physical testing (EN 71-1), flammability requirements (EN 71-2) and toxicity testing (EN 71-3).

Checking CE Certificates are Genuine

SATRA has become aware of an increasing number of ‘fake’ or doctored EU-Type Examination Certificates that have been circulating the market. This webinar advises how to determine if an EU-Type Certificate is a forgery, using examples of forged or doctored certificates. The aim is to ensure that the end user understands the documentation required and can identify valid certificates with confidence.

UKCA Panel Discussion – Your Questions Answered

The UK adopted its own PPE legislation on 1st January 2021 with the introduction of the new ‘United Kingdom Conformity Assessed’ (UKCA) mark, which will need to be placed on products as a means of showing conformance. A panel of SATRA experts, including Simon Courtney and Pete Doughty, discuss the UKCA mark and implications for manufacturers and suppliers of PPE, and answer questions from the audience.

Introducing the UK Conformity Assessed Mark (UKCA)

It is likely that from 1st January 2021 onwards the UK will adopt its own PPE legislation. The UK legislation will involve the use of a new ‘United Kingdom Conformity Assessed’ (UKCA) mark, which will need to be placed on products as a means of showing conformance with applicable UK legislation. Simon Courtney and Pete Doughty explain the changes that will come into force on the 1st January 2021 as we understand, them and discuss the implications across supply chains.

Introduction to the PPE Regulation

During this webinar SATRA’s certification expert Hannah Coe gives an overview of the Regulation including brief explanations about preparing documentation including risk assessments, the EU Declaration of Conformity and the Annex II Basic Health and Safety Requirements. She also discusses certificate expiry after 5 years and gives some examples of good practice.

PPE certification (CE Mark)

All personal protective products must be tested and certified before they can be put on the market. In these exceptional times, some equipment being made for medical use will only require testing. SATRA’s laboratories and experts are available for testing and advice.

Furniture and the General Product Safety Regulations

The safety of most domestic furniture is governed by the General Product Safety Regulations. Since 1st January 2021 this has become a UK only regulation. This session provides an introduction to the regulations and how they affect furniture, as well outlining the difference between the UK and EU requirements. SATRA Furniture and Floor Coverings Divisional Manager, Phil Reynolds, presents an overview of the requirements and also answers questions on the subject.
