Checking CE Certificates are Genuine

SATRA has become aware of an increasing number of ‘fake’ or doctored EU-Type Examination Certificates that have been circulating the market. This webinar advises how to determine if an EU-Type Certificate is a forgery, using examples of forged or doctored certificates. The aim is to ensure that the end user understands the documentation required and can identify valid certificates with confidence.

Sustainability Workshop on Durability and Longevity of Footwear

Tom Bayes, SATRA’s Head of Innovation, discusses the use of accelerated ageing tests to assess the durability of footwear and help to predict its longevity in use. We also hear from Stefan Mathys, co-founder of the innovative SATRA member VYN, who produce sneakers designed to be worn, cared for and repaired by the owner.

Sustainability Workshop on Packaging

The Keynote Presentation - Clear Consumer Communications - was given by Professor Margaret Bates from OPRL Ltd the not-for-profit company which runs the award-winning On-Pack Recycling Label scheme, recognised by the UN Environment Programme as international best practice.

The webinar includes a presentation from SATRA on the topic Minimum Performance for Packaging and Assessment and this was followed by a presentation from Sharon Reason from L&E International, highlighting recent developments in designing and producing sustainable packaging for the footwear industry.

Digital Last assessment

A look at SATRA’s new digital services for measuring and analysing the shape and dimensions of shoemaking lasts. This service can be used during the development phase of shoe design to understand the likely comfort and population coverage offered by footwear without the need for human fit trials.

An Update to Regulation (EU) No 10/2011 Food Contact

This webinar, presented by Lorna Harding, a technologist in SATRA’s chemistry team, provides a summary of the new Commission Regulation (EU) 2020/1245 which revises Regulation (EU) 10/2011 on plastic materials and articles intended to come into contact with food.

Introduction to REACH (part 1)

This introductory session, presented by Martin Heels, SATRA’s Head of Chemistry, discusses the background of this complex piece of chemical legislation. The requirements for chemicals, what is an article, the mandatory requirements for articles in annex XVII, Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs) and the enforcement of REACH are all covered.

REACH (part 2) Restricted Substances

This session, presented by Lucy Cove, one of SATRA’s Chemical Technologists, expands upon the Introduction to REACH with a focus on the mandatory requirements for consumer products within REACH Annex XVII, including high risk chemicals for various material types and the use of testing to demonstrate compliance.

REACH (part 3) Substances of Very High Concern

Once a substance has been identified as a Substance of Very High Concern (SVHC) and is included on the candidate list, certain obligations apply to articles that contain the substance. This webinar includes information on the candidate list, what obligations exist and different testing strategies.

Testing gloves for food contact

Martin Heels, SATRA’s Head of Chemistry, presents an introduction to the protective glove webinar series. This is followed by a discussion of the background, legislative requirements and testing procedures regarding gloves for food contact applications by Emma Norris, the Technologist Team Leader in SATRA’s Chemical and analytical technology group.
