SATRA is one of the leading Notified Bodies for the type-approval of personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with the PPE (EU) 2016/425 regulation. Some of our experts will be attending one of the most important trade shows in this sector – the A+A Health and Safety exhibition from 4th to 7th November in the German city of Düsseldorf.
SATRA’s testing and certification services extend across most areas of PPE, including safety footwear, protective clothing and protective gloves. Our well-equipped mechanical, chemical, thermal, optical, respiratory and acoustic laboratories can assess most types of personal protective equipment to European and International standards.
Over the years, SATRA has been influential in the development of PPE-related test methods – for example, the slip resistance testing for safety footwear defined in EN ISO 20344 shares key principles with the SATRA TM144:2021 – ‘Friction (slip resistance) of footwear and floorings’ test – and many of SATRA’s experts are involved with BSI, CEN and ISO technical committees who create, revise and update PPE standards.
Exhibiting your PPE footwear products
As all PPE items placed on the European Union market must be produced in line with (EU) 2016/425, it is imperative that they can demonstrate conformance with the latest performance requirements when they are certified. This may require testing and subsequent certification from a Notified Body.
During the months surrounding a major fair such as A+A, SATRA tests and certifies many new products to make them ready to be placed on the EU and UK markets. We provide a fast and efficient testing programme to all our customers, and can offer constructive help and advice where appropriate to our members. Such assistance, from concept to certification, is often deemed invaluable in reducing development times and quickly acquiring certificates.
One key fact to remember is that EU-type examination certificates issued in 2020 may have reached their five-year expiry date, so manufacturers should check the validity of each certificate in preparation for the show. Please let us know if you would like a list of all SATRA EU type-examination certificates which have been issued to your company.
