Test Method: SATRA TM437

Glove ergonomics: finger & thumb ‘pinch grip’

November 2010

SCOPE

This method is intended to determine the grip properties of gloves (finger and thumb parts) on dry and lubricated surfaces. This method is mainly applicable to non-absorbent gloves designed for dextrous work, but may be applied to any glove type.

PRINCIPLE

A subject is required to don the test glove, grip a bar with their index finger and thumb and pull for a set distance against a load. The grip is then relaxed until the bar slips, when the subject must re-grip the bar to stop the slippage. The load is then released and the grip relaxed. The values of grip forces are measured throughout the test cycle. The subject also provides a subjective opinion of the gripping action of the glove materials.
