Test Method: SATRA TM439
Shipping carton compression strength test
January 2011
SCOPE
This method is intended to assess the resistance of shipping cartons to compression under load. The cartons may be empty, with interior supports and/or fully loaded. This method is mainly applicable to large cardboard boxes.
PRINCIPLE
The carton under test is placed between two flat platens larger in area than the carton. One of the platens is driven towards the other in order to compress the carton. The force required to compress the carton and the resulting deflection is recorded.
